5 Classic Movies Based/Themed Around Casinos

When we think of classic movie themes, casinos definitely spring to mind.  There have been some major blockbusters that have chosen that as a theme to base the movie around.  They are always good for fast-paced action and drama.  Below, we have selected some of our favourites in case you wanted to have a watch!

Casino

The movie casino is set in the early 70’s in Las Vegas.  It has 3 Hollywood A-listers as the main cast, Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone and Joe Pesci.  Directed by Martin Scorsese, this movie is a must-see. You will find the main character “Ace” in-line to head the Tangiers Casino. At first, things all go well – however as time goes on hustlers, ex wives and corrupt politicians get in the way which result in Ace being in increasing danger.

Oceans 11

Oceans 11 has been an incredible success, so much so that there are a total of 5 movies after the successful remake.  The original had the infamous rat pack Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jnr, and Dean Martin.  The remake featured an all-star cast in George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt.  Danny Ocean is the main character who tries to pull off the biggest casino heist in history, while being fresh out of jail. Watch as he targets 3 casinos that just happened to be owned by the man who is now with his ex-wife.

The Hangover

What happens in vegas……..The Hangover is based on a group of men going on a stag party, just days before the big day.  Disaster ensues when they wake up, can’t remember anything that happened – and can’t find the main character Doug whose wedding it is!  The first movie was released in 2009, The Hangover II in 2011, and The Hangover III in 2013. The hilarious quartet is played by Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Todd Phillips and Zach Galifanakis.

Casino Royale

James Bond is off on yet another adventure with the classic that is Casino Royale.  Starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, he heads off to Madagascar to find Le Chiffre, who funds terrorist organisations.  After finding out that he plans to raise money in a game of poker, James Bond is sent by MI6 to be his opponent.  Even if you aren’t the biggest James Bond fan, we would highly recommend giving this one a watch. And for those of you who love a theme song, the theme song to this particular Bond movie is You Know My Name by Chris Cornell.
